This is such a grand tradition! I heard it takes place every third year! How wonderful to see the Carriages with their whips and passengers all decked out! So lovely!
I love everything about this; the craftsmanship of the carriage, the costumes, and of course the horses! I have had the pleasure of seeing a couple of these teams at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Gorgeous! Thanks for this:)
I agree and have always thought that your pictures are incredibly beautiful! I would love to know your secret! This is so lovely….I wish I were there! Have a great week!
Hi Karen, Coaching Weekend is hosted every three years by The Preservation Society of Newport County. The carriages drive through the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport's historic houses, celebrating and preserving the century-old sporting tradition. Approximately a dozen coaching teams come to Newport from around the country. I have seen it from every viewpoint - as a groom working on a coach when I was younger, as a passenger, and as a spectator - and I can tell you it never gets old. This year was particularly festive as I took my children, nieces and nephew to see different events over the course of the weekend. All best, Phyllis
though these photos were taken here in the states, they bring me back to my time spent in london and the elegance of their refined culture! thank you for sharing these wonderful photos! Hugs from California! xx, The Golden Girls
Wow, this is amazing Phyllis. Do they do this every year? Looks like the one that takes place at Winterthur and Frolic Weymouth's place. Controlling those horses is not something I could ever do, but so beautiful to see. Have a good week-end, b
Phyllis, I love this. I have seen contests like this at the annual Washington International Horse Show in DC. The teams, the carriages and the outfits are all sensational. They all have such attention to detail-its so beautiful! Thanks for taking us with you! Nancy Powellbrowerhome.com
What a great way to celebrate summer! My grandfather was into driving when I was a little girl. A bit of an eccentric hobby but I still remember when he taught me to drive the little cart with a mini horse. I must have been only eight or so but it was very fun!
